Limina/Mix/Support

Getting Started

1

Create or open a session

When you launch Limina Mix you'll see the welcome screen. Click New Session to start fresh, or Open Session to load an existing .limina file. Recent sessions are listed for quick access.

2

Add tracks and import audio

Click Add Track in the toolbar (or press ⌘T) to open a file picker and load a WAV or MP3. You can also drag audio files directly from Finder onto any track row. Each file becomes a clip on the timeline.

3

Arrange your clips

Drag clips left and right on the timeline to set their start position. Drag the left or right edge of a clip to trim it. Shift-click to select multiple clips and drag them together — Delete removes them all at once. Use the zoom slider (or pinch on a trackpad) to adjust your view, and press P to scroll back to the playhead.

4

Set crossfades

To crossfade between two clips on the same track, drag one so it overlaps the other. The overlapping region automatically becomes a smooth equal-power crossfade. Drag the fade handle vertically to change the curve shape.

5

Preview and export

Press Space to play your session from the current playhead position. When you're happy with the mix, go to File → Export as WAV or MP3 to render everything to a single audio file.

Frequently Asked Questions

What audio formats can I import?

Limina Mix supports WAV and MP3 files. Drag them from Finder onto a track, or use the Add Track button to browse.

How do crossfades work?

Simply overlap two clips on the same track. The overlapping region becomes an automatic equal-power crossfade. The longer the overlap, the longer the fade. You can fine-tune the fade curve shape by dragging the fade handle vertically.

How do I split a clip?

Position the playhead where you want to split, select the clip, then press S. The clip will be divided into two independent clips at that point.

Where are my sessions saved?

Sessions are saved as .limina files wherever you choose on your Mac. Use File → Save (⌘S) to save, and File → Open (⌘O) to reopen a session. Recent sessions appear on the welcome screen.

What is Collect Project Files?

File → Collect Project Files copies all audio files referenced in your session into a files/ folder next to your .limina file. Use this before sharing or archiving a project to ensure nothing goes missing.

How do I export my mix?

Go to File → Export as WAV or Export as MP3. WAV is uncompressed and recommended for the highest quality. MP3 lets you choose a bitrate (128, 192, or 320 kbps).

Can I automate volume within a clip?

Yes — select a clip and use the automation nodes to draw a volume curve directly on the clip. Click on the clip to add a node, drag to adjust, and right-click to remove.

How do I change a track's colour?

Click the colour swatch in the track header on the left. This opens the native colour picker and tints the waveform for that track.

Is there a Windows version?

Yes — Limina Mix is available for both macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows 10/11. Download the .dmg for Mac or the .exe installer for Windows from the download page.

Can I import a session from Adobe Audition?

Yes. Go to File → Import Session and select your .sesx file (Adobe Audition's session format). Limina Mix will import your tracks, clips, and timing. Audio files are relinked automatically if they are in the same location as the .sesx file. You can optionally collect all audio into a new folder during import.

Is it really free?

Yes, completely free with no subscription, no watermark, and no feature limits.

Troubleshooting

Waveforms not showing after opening a session

The audio files may have moved or been renamed. Right-click a clip and choose Find File in Folder to relink it. Using Collect Project Files before archiving prevents this.

Audio not playing

Check that the track isn't muted (M button in the track header) and that the master volume isn't at zero. If another app is holding the audio device, try quitting it and restarting playback.

Export sounds distorted or clipped

Lower the individual track volumes or clip volumes before exporting. The master volume slider in the master channel controls overall output level.

Session file won't open

Make sure the file has a .limina extension and hasn't been corrupted. If the session was created on an older version, try opening it anyway — Limina Mix reads forward and backward.

App won't open on macOS — 'damaged' or 'unidentified developer'

Because Limina Mix is not yet notarised by Apple, macOS Gatekeeper may block it. Right-click the app in Finder, choose Open, then click Open again in the dialog. If you see a 'damaged' message, open Terminal and run: xattr -cr /Applications/Limina\ Studio.app — then try opening again. You only need to do this once.
